Counseling

Connecting Links is an experienced rehabilitation and well-being counseling service operating out of the beautiful city of Lincoln.

Whether you decided to reach out to a therapist on a friend's recommendation or you decided yourself it was time to get help, you've come to the right place.

When you work with our counseling practice, you'll receive private, personalized attention. It's you and the counselor.

People's lives are rarely a straight shot. There are forks in the road, big decisions to be made, conflicts to resolve, relationships to reconcile and emotional hurdles to overcome.

A counselor can begin by doing the most important thing -- listening to you. And as you tell your personal history and concerns to the counselor and you discuss them, you may be surprised to discover how strong you really are.

Family Therapy

Family therapy works with the intimate relationships of families and couples to nurture change and development. This change helps to improve interaction between family members. We believe strongly that these family relationships are key to good psychological well-being

.

You may consider the origin of the issue to be an "individual" or "family" issue. In either case, involving family members can be very beneficial in reaching a solution. Family participation is commonly accomplished by direct participation in therapy sessions. The skills of the family therapist thus include the ability to facilitate conversations, change perceptions and improve interaction in a way that capitalizes on the strengths, wisdom and support of family members.

Family therapy uses a range of counseling and other techniques:

  • communication theory
  • psychoeducation
  • psychotherapy
  • relationship education
  • systemic coaching
  • systems theory
  • reality therapy

Substance Abuse

Substance abuse has come to refer to the overindulgence in and dependence on a drug or other chemical leading to effects that are detrimental to the individual's physical and mental health, or the welfare of others. The disorder is characterized by a pattern of continued pathological use of a medication, non-medically indicated drug or toxin, that results in repeated adverse social consequences related to drug use, such as failure to meet work, family or school obligations, interpersonal conflicts or legal problems.

Drug abuse has a huge range of definitions related to taking a psychoactive drug or performance enhancing drug for a non-therapeutic or non-medical effect. All of these definitions imply a negative judgment of the drug use in question. Some of the drugs most often associated with this term include alcohol, amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methaqualone, and opium alkaloids. Use of these drugs may lead to criminal penalty in addition to possible physical, social and psychological harm, both strongly depending on local jurisdiction.

Our staff of highly-trained therapists in Lincoln have a wealth of experience in dealing with substance and drug abuse cases. We can do out-patient therapy when needed or suggest in-patient treatment facilities in the right circumstances. In certain cases of substance and drug abuse, an intervention is staged.
